Ramping up the healthcare system has been a top priority for Tejasvi Surya. So is making it accessible for all. He set up the country’s largest oxygen concentrator bank, organized free eye screenings along with free power glasses, established the country’s first dialysis centre without a billing desk and strengthened primary healthcare across the constituency.
1. Setting up Janaushadhi Kendras
Issue: Quality & affordable medicines
Janaushadhi Kendra generic medicine stores provide medicines at almost 70-90% reduced rates, helping citizens save big on their medical requirements. In Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya has made it a mission to set up a maximum number of PMBJKs and alleviate the medical expenditure of the poor. While in 2019, there were 14 Janaushadhi Kendras in Bengaluru South Constituency, over the course of 3 years, the number of kendras has increased exponentially to 112 making Bengaluru the city with the highest number of these generic medicine stores in the country.
2. Eye Check Up of Government School Students
Issue: Access to free eye-care to economically disadvantaged
In July 2022, over 2,000 government school children were screened in Vijayanagar and Basavanagudi. Around 250 children who needed power glasses were provided free spectacles.
3. NaMo Dialysis and Daycare Centre
Issue: Unaffordability of critical healthcare service
Tejasvi Surya set up the country’s first dialysis centre with no billing counter at the KSRTC Hospital, Jayanagar. More than 12 machines capable of rendering 3 sessions daily are being set up here. The haemodialysis procedures being done here will be completely free. Established under MPLADS Funds, the centre is a Game changer for the poor with savings up to Rs 3000 per session.
4. PMNRF
Issue: Unaffordable healthcare
Under the PMNRF scheme, poor patients can avail assistance between Rs 50,000 and Rs 3 lakh for medical treatments like cochlear implant surgery for children, heart surgery, kidney transplantation, cancer treatment of needy people, acid attack etc. Around … citizens of Bengaluru South have been able to save Rs … lakh by availing financial assistance for their most critical treatments.
5. NaMo Arogya Nidhi
Issue: Monthly Free Medicines
Tejasvi launched a campaign to provide free medicines monthly for the financially backward patients in the constituency. So far, 700 people have availed free medicines worth over Rs 15 lakhs.

Revamping BBMP Bed Booking Software
Issue: Irregularities in BBMP
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tejasvi Surya identified irregularities in BBMP’s bed allocation system and reformed the software in 100 hours, offering real-time data on hospital-wise bed availability. Following this, COVID patients were alloted hospital beds within minutes of reporting systems and got regular SMS updates about their treatment.
7. MP Covid task force
Tejasvi set up a team of volunteers to attend to citizens’ emergency requirements during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Available 24/7 on 99464 99464, the MP COVID Task Force provided delivery of groceries, medicines and free cab rides to hospitals. They also worked on ensuring Bengaluru’s frontline warriors, comprising doctors, ASHA workers and pourakarmikas perform their duties safely with sufficient protective equipment.
8. Homeline Whatsapp bot
Through the MP COVID Task Force, Tejasvi Surya powered what is the country’s first Whatsapp bot-enabled e-Commerce platform called the Homeline. It ensured home delivery of essentials through Whatsapp and call.
9. Covid Raksha
To manage COVID-19 pandemic operations in Bengaluru, a one-stop end-to-end digital solution was developed. Citizens could report COVID-19 symptoms, enquire about testing, request for doctor assistance and reach out for urgent care through Covid Raksha.
10. MP Oxy Bank
Tejasvi set up the country’s largest Oxygen Concentrator Bank during Covid 2.0 with over 1000 units of oxygen concentrators for assisting in the COVID 19 and post COVID 19 treatment, helping over 800 patients.
11. Revamping of Defunct Hospitals during Covid
Surya revived 4 defunct hospitals and added over 500 emergency beds and ensured fastest possible universal vaccination in Bengaluru South. The defunct hospitals were identified & mapped to operationalise them using MPLADS and CSR funds. KSRTC Hospital, Garden City, Mahabodhi & Jayanagar General Hospitals were revamped & equipped with medical infrastructure.
12. Vaccination Drive
Bengaluru supported the Largest Vaccine Drive by inoculating the fastest number of people in the shortest span of time. Tejasvi coordinated with government and private hospitals to ensure universal coverage of all the doses and vaccination of teens in the constituency.
13. Allocation of additional oxygen
Tejasvi Surya made a request to increase the allocation of medical oxygen during Covid-19. Following his request, an additional daily allocation of 40 MT of medical oxygen was earmarked for Bengaluru. The continuous supply played a significant role in ensuring recovery of thousands of COVID-19 patients in the city.
14. Review Meeting with Hospitals
Tejasvi Surya held a virtual meeting with doctors and management of Private Hospitals in Bengaluru South to monitor the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus. He also reviewed the facilities and vaccine drive at the BMCRI, Victoria Hospital, Jayanagar General Hospital, Pobbathi UPHC, NR Colony PHC and other Government healthcare institutions.
15. Ban on E-cigarettes
Tejasvi Surya sought clarification from the government regarding e-cigarettes and emphasized the adverse health effects associated with Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) during a Parliament session. Following his intervention, the cabinet not only approved a ban on these devices but also introduced punitive measures.
In response to financial constraints faced by underprivileged children aspiring for education, the "Namo Vidyanidhi" initiative offers scholarships of ₹10,000 each to 10,000 meritorious students. These scholarships are paid directly to the respective schools, ensuring financial assistance reaches those who need it most. To date, scholarships have been distributed to 1000 student beneficiaries.
