MP Tejasvi Surya has been a proactive member of the House, introducing and participating in various discussions that have been of immense critical importance to the welfare of the nation.
Standing Committee
Part of the Standing Committee on IT, Tejasvi Surya made critical interventions in the role of social media intermediaries during the meetings. It eventually led to the framing of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, making social media platforms comply with a host of domestic laws.
Part of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Data Protection Bill, 2019, Tejasvi batted to safeguard the privacy and freedom of expression of citizens.

An interactive platform where citizens and stakeholders discuss, review, scrutinise and arrive at solutions on key policy issues.
2. Pre-Budget Consultations - Union Budget 2023-24
Tejasvi Surya held pre-budget consultations with over 120 important stakeholders across various sectors in Bengaluru and received important inputs for Union Budget 2023-24. Representing different sectors of the economy like real estate, startups, pharma, health, hotels, food processing and trade, the CEO delegates of the conference offered specific suggestions for Budget 2023.
Several suggestions and proposals for PM Shri Narendra Modi-led Government's Union Budget 2023 were deliberated in these sector-wise consultations.
3. Discussion on the Union Budget for 2022-2023
Tejasvi Surya has voraciously spearheaded the discussions regarding the historic Union Budget of 2022, with impeccable suggestions to boost the recovery of the economy post the COVID-19 pandemic that gripped the world.
4. Protection and conservation of Hesaraghatta Grasslands
The Hesaraghatta Grasslands Region consists of 356 acres of grassland region surrounded by 1356 acres of the Hesaraghatta Lake, 383 acres of Byrapura Lake, 165 acres of Byta Lake and 2750 acres falling under the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Karnataka.
The Grasslands is the last remaining lung space of Bengaluru. Tejasvi has urged the Government of Karnataka to approve a proposal to declare the Hesaraghatta Grasslands into a conservation zone called the ‘Greater Hesaraghatta Grasslands Protected Reserve Zone’.
5. Request to the Finance Minister to add cities like Bengaluru and similar cities as metro cities, to claim 50 per cent House Rent Allowance
With a massive working population in Bengaluru and like-cities, Tejasvi Surya urged the Hon’ble Finance Minister to add such cities to the list of Metropolitan cities so that 50% of Housing Rental Allowance can be claimed by the taxpayers of such cities.
6. The Problem of Drug Abuse in the Country
Tejasvi Surya introduced the discussion on the ‘War on Drugs', effectively led by the Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and conveyed the mission of the central government to tackle the problems of drug abuse and narcotics in the country.
7. Resuming the operations of Amrutha Varshini Channel by All India Radio
Being an ardent follower of the culture of Carnatic music, Tejasvi put forth a request to the House to resume the ceased operations of the Amrutha Varshini Channel by All India Radio Bangalore to provide a diverse cultural experience for the citizens of Bangalore.
8. Creation of HAL Airport or create a new terminal at Bidadi or Anekal
After the inauguration of the T-2 Terminal at the Kempegowda International Airport, Tejasvi Surya urged the Ministry to allow for an additional terminal to be constructed at Bidadi or Anekal in southern Bengaluru to enable easier mobility to the Airport.
9. Request to the Ministry to introduce Financial Literacy as a part of the formal school and college education system
Tejasvi Surya urged the Ministry of Education to introduce financial literacy, a discipline that is paramount for growth and sustainability in the 21st century for school and college students. To empower these young minds through a fiscal dimension, would be a boost to India’s inclusivity in the financial domain.
10. Keeping RWAs out of the purview of the GST
Section 2 (17) (e) of the CGST Act, 2017, considers the facilities or benefits provided to members by the RWA as a deemed business. However, RWAs or housing societies mainly function as a non profit organisation run by resident volunteers and providing goods and services for common use of its own members.
Tejasvi Surya requested the Finance Minister to reconsider the GST levied on Resident Welfare Associations.
11. Expansion of Suburban Railway Network
Tejasvi Surya requested the Hon'ble Railway Minister to approve the expansion plan of the suburban railway network. The suburban railway provides a sustainable method of commuting within Bengaluru. An expansion of the network is essential to promote the economic growth of Bengaluru’s suburban centres like Tumkur, Ramanagara, Chikkabellapura and Hosur (in Tamil Nadu).
12. High-Speed Rail Corridor to Hubballi
The Government of India made South India's first Vande Bharat Express operational between Mysuru-Bengaluru-Chennai in the month of November. Tejasvi has requested the Government to consider another High-Speed Rail Corridor connecting Bengaluru and Hubballi.
13. Removal of pension cut-off date for non-pensioned retirees from CPSEs
Those citizens who have retired from Central Public Sector Enterprises before 01.01.2007 cannot claim the scheme benefits of the Pension Corpus. Tejasvi Surya supported the plea of The All India Non-Pensioned Cum Senior Citizen Retirees’ Association to ensure that even retirees before 01.01.2007 be granted a pension.

Tejasvi Surya made several policy suggestions for the better functioning of Jan Aushadhi Kendras, which provide generic medicines at affordable prices to citizens.

16. Bengaluru@2047 Policy Roundtable
To build Bengaluru into a future city, deliberations were held with various business & academic sectors and a policy proposal was prepared for Bengaluru 2047.
17. Push for 4 Labour Codes
To promote MSMEs and their ease of doing business, Tejasvi Surya urged the Government to replace archaic labour laws.
18. Request to reduce GST for Hotels
Meetings were held with Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman to request for the reduction of GST for outdoor catering from 18% to 5%. The GST rate was subsequently reduced after the GST council meeting.
19. Modification of IT Intermediaries Guidelines Rules 2021
Tejasvi Surya urged the Government to ensure that social media platforms abide by domestic laws. This also led to the framing of the IT Intermediary Guidelines Rules, 2021.
20. A 24-hour Hackathon for Building Future Cities
Building Future Cities Blockchain Hackathon was held in collaboration with CoinSwitch Kuber and Government of Karnataka, supported by Sequoia India Capital.
21. Bengaluru Metropolitan Land Transport Authority Bill
Various parastatals governing transport like BMTC, KSRTC, Railways, Metro and Traffic Police work as separate organisations with poor coordination. Tejasvi Surya pushed for the BMLTA Bill to provide for an umbrella organisation for all the transport parastatals. It was introduced in the Legislative Assembly in September 2022.
In response to financial constraints faced by underprivileged children aspiring for education, the "Namo Vidyanidhi" initiative offers scholarships of ₹10,000 each to 10,000 meritorious students. These scholarships are paid directly to the respective schools, ensuring financial assistance reaches those who need it most. To date, scholarships have been distributed to 1000 student beneficiaries.
Janaushadhi Kendra generic medicine stores provide medicines at almost 70-90% reduced rates, helping citizens save big on their medical requirements. In Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya has made it a mission to set up a maximum number of PMBJKs and alleviate the medical expenditure of the poor. While in 2019, there were 14 Janaushadhi Kendras in Bengaluru South Constituency, over the course of 3 years, the number of kendras has increased exponentially to 112 making Bengaluru the city with the highest number of these generic medicine stores in the country.
Tejasvi Surya reviews the scheme aimed at achieving housing for all and making affordable housing accessible to low and moderate-income citizens across the nation. In Bengaluru South, 1,90,646 houses have been built for the urban poor with a total investment of ₹3,239 crore.
